Get Gas - But Not From BP!

I usually just blog about dumb ol’ stuff that I say, see, hear and do. But, in my “real life” I actually have a pretty cool job, at a pretty cool agency. And while I don the cape and mask of the Kickball Superstar in the ’sphere, I pretty much know what i’m doing in my profession.

If y’all run a business - or ever plan to - this is exactly how NOT to manage a corporate communications policy.
I’ll be back with more funny later, but this just really bugged me.

I Got Mail - And Now You Got Pics!

I got some pics in my inbox this morning, and though y’all would be happy to see ‘em. I know I was…

There are some video clips that I’m fooling with now, too, but apparently WordPress doesn’t let you upload anything other than jpegs on your site. Unless you pay for it. Which I may have to do, if I decide to keep on keepin’ on here.

BR has graciously offered his site to host my vids if I can get ‘em over to him. I’ll keep you posted on how THAT goes…

I know I’ve been a serious slack-ass when it comes to the ‘ol Slip and Slide here…My only excuse is that my job has been ridiculously busy the past two weeks (We had one guy in dept quit earlier this week, and our newest hire - not even here one day - left for another job. ugh), and househunting is becoming a full-time job. In fact, I had to bolt out of work because a house went on the market today that’s in my range, and already had four people scheduled to look at it, so I needed to get there first, so if I liked it, I could be the first to put an offer on it (I’m gonna pass).

In the meantime, before we all leave our lovely jobs for a long weekend, I thought I’d share a couple of the pics for the ages-old Photo Challenge!!!!

I’m spending the weekend laying on the beach, hitting the batting cages with KSG, and continuing the Quest for the Lair of the Kickball Superstar…

Have a great weekend. Tell the person next to you I said hi.

Here’s me and KSG…Cute, huh? What you don’t know is that she’s holding a .45 to the small of my back and threatening that if I don’t smile “like I mean it,” she’ll “blow a kickball-sized hole through me.” Just kidding….or am I?
KS and KSG

This one’s just disturbing. I’ll tell you a story on why I’m terrified of this particular Cabbage Patch Kid when I get back And the fact that it’s finally out of its box (first time EVER since the first year those damn things came out!) freaks me out even more!

And this is just nasty. I can’t believe that y’all made my mom do this. That’s right. I didn’t do it. The woman who gave birth to me, loved me, raised me, taught me how to drive a car, and bought me my first electric guitar put her tongue on the street. For you. Isn’t she sweet?

Y’all come back now, ya hear?

You Want Pictures?!? I’ve Got Pictures!

Ok. That title is a little misleading, as it implies I have all the pictures from the photo challenge. Which I still don’t.

But - - - I do have a little slack time today, so in the course of cleaning out my computer in the hopes of getting it to be at least as fast as a Commodore 64, I found me some pics that I thought I’d share with the group…

DISCLAIMER: Viewing the photos below releases the author of this blog from having to constantly defend himself for slacking about putting the photo challenge pictures up. He’s really trying, y’all. I may…ahem, he may just have to go out and take a bunch more pics this weekend.

In other news: I put an offer in on another house yesterday. Supposed to know something tomorrow…ugh.

I’ll hopefully have good news about that soon, but in the meantime…ENJOY!

Here’s me and my buddy Tony playing the Windjammer last May…Open Mic Night

Here’s one of me and my friend Julie (former coworker, and now my real estate agent) at last year’s Cooper River Bridge RunBridge Run 2004

Man, that was bad. I’ll be better after I get this house thing behind me.

I said behind.

The Pictures Are Coming! I SWEAR IT!

Y’all have the patience of saints (Well, some of you do. Jackie, on the other hand, is a bit more forceful. And I like that.)

We took pictures with one of those disposable cameras while my mom was down here. Then she took the camera back home. So, there’s a whole waiting-to-get-the-pics-developed-then-scan-them-in-and-email-them-to-me time delay thing going on here.

But, I do have a couple of pictures to slake your voyeuristic thirsts…

Here’s my nephew - the one who will be attending college here in a few months. And that’s bloody vomit coming out of his mouth. Ah….two birds with one stone!

And here’s a shot of me in the ‘ol WAKA uniform getting ready to unleash the fury on the opposing team…

KS in his Superhero Getup

Pics of me and KSG are on their way…And I think we even got one with her sticking her fist in her mouth, too…another two-pointer!

And here’s just an all-time favorite of mine…

So, keep your drawers on for just a little bit longer…the pics are on coming soon! WooHoo!!!

Like dropping a wounded goldfish in a pirhana tank

I recently became a member of the Theatre 99 family- a group of about 40 improv comics in town.

Yesterday was the first meeting that the whole group was at - including me and my classmates that recently got asked to join “the family.”

In the middle of the meeting, my chair broke and I fell over backwards. Like feet-up-in-the-air fell over backwards.

Imagine something embarrasing and funny happening to you in a literal. room. full. of. comics.

Upon further review, it probably couldn’t have happened to a better person, or in a better place…

They Don’t Call Me Kickball Superstar Cuz of My Coin Collection

For those of you who started checking out my site anytime after November of last year, first of all, thanks. Secondly, you’re getting ready to start seeing a good bit of new stuff appear here in addition to my normal bouts of navel-gazing.

During the kickball seasons, I put a lot of news, info, smack talk, and player interviews on here to entertain and inform the troops. This year ought to be even better with the advent of audio and video posting (still waiting on the improv tape from mom…Thanks for taking care of that, mama. Love you mean it. Say hi to the nice people sometime). It’s kind of like one of those great detergent commercials. “Now - with 48% more kickball news!”

or something.

This first bit of WAKA news isn’t terribly exciting. Just a bit of housekeeping that needs to done.

So here goes:

The first SC Coastal Division Board meeting has been moved!! The meeting will be held Next Tuesday night, May 24th at the Blind Tiger, at 6:30pm. We gonna chat about the upcoming season, maybe vote on a board member or two (Join the board - We do more before 5PM than most people do by noon.), all while getting to our fellow kickballers over a cocktail or two! (cocktail?! Sorry folks, the new guy sent me this, and I’m editing it as I read it. We don’t drink “cocktails” in kickball. Let’s try this again, shall we?)

all while getting to our fellow kickballers over a cold PBR, 40oz of King Cobra, and half a pack of Camel Lights. (ahhh….much better.)

THIS IS A MANDATORY MEETING FOR ALL CAPTAINS! ALL CAPTAINS MUST ATTEND WITH ONE OTHER REPRESENTATIVE FROM THEIR TEAM! So, we need 2 people from each team to be there! Captains, if you can’t make it, please send a representative in your place!

All other registered players that are interested in being on the board are welcome to attend as well…

For you bullet pointed minded folks:
What: The 1st SC Coastal Board Meeting
When: Tuesday, May 24th
Time: 6:30pm
Where: Blind Tiger (downtown)

Hope to see you there!

There. That wasn’t too bad, was it?

buddy up,

It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year - or, This One’s for You, Betel Geuse..

It’s been a long, and eventful off-season, but the sun’s out, the grass is green, and the smell of red rubber balls, 40 oz Malt Liquor bottles, and possibilities is in the air…

We’re just three weeks away from the start of another WAKA Kickball season here in lovely Charleston. It’s our fourth season, and I’ve decided to step down from my role as president, and will now assume my new role as The Ghost Man - writer/editor of the weekly newsletter that our 400+ drinkers with a kickball problem will receive. I’ll be sure to post each edition up here, too, so y’all can get even more insight into my addiction to a game played by 10 year olds.

I got an email recently from someone who said that while they love my poetic waxing about my day-to-day, they were having withdrawls from a lack of K-ball news. Well, simmer down Chuckles AKA “T”, there hasn’t been any news.

The only thing I can tell you right now is that our sign up was so huge this season that we had to open up another division. The Palmetto Division will play on Tuesday nights (The Coastal Division plays on Wed/Thurs)
There’s a meeting next Wednesday at 6:30PM at Dengate’s for all captains, and anyone interested in joining the board. If you play, you oughtta think about joining the board in some capacity. In the four seasons here, I’ve been Social Chair twice, The Ghost Man twice, and Prez…(it’s like the Avon of social sporting activities!)…

That good enought for now, T? I promise that as your friendly neighborhood ghost man that i will always keep you fully informed on all things Charleston Kickball (as a matter of fact, try googling “Charleston Kickball” and see what comes up…

In other news,
1) still waiting on photos from mom. as soon as i get ‘em, i’ll put ‘em up! pinky swear.
2) i’m the karaoke DJ at a bar in town this saturday. If anyone happens to be in Charleston this weekend, stop on by the Island Bar and Grill.
3) I start performing with Improv Smackdown in July…
4) I feel out of the loop with y’all cuz I still haven’t caught up on everyone’s sites yet!!! forgiveness, please…

I’m a little bit country, and I’m a little bit rock & roll,

Dammit!

I didn’t get the house. But fret not, dearest readers and friends - I’m still on the house hunting tip. Got my eyes on a little tin roofed bungalow on James Island, and my realtor friend is dropping off a bunch of listings tomorrow for me to go over.

Thanks to those that wished me good luck! Itchy crabs, and a burning sensation when you pee to those that didn’t.

Gotta throw myself at work for a about another 90 minutes or so, then I’ll be back.

I was asked be a reader to start writing more about kickball stuff. Well, BG (do you have a site by the way?), the season hasn’t started yet, but I do have a few predictions about this season that I’d like to get published now, so that I can gloat about - or spin positively in my favor - later.

Still mad at Brad and Angelina,

I’m Back!

Just wanted to drop a line and say “hi!” to everyone…

I’ve got about 200 emails, 11 voice mails, and a stack of papers to go through (Ah, the joys of returning from vacation), but just wanted to let everyone know that I really appreciated the happy birthday wishes (I had a GREAT one, by the way!), and the photo suggestions. We didn’t bring the digital camera out with us, but did buy a cheapie $10 disposable for shots. I’ll put ‘em up as soon as I get ‘em back….I didn’t get all of the suggestions complete this weekend, but I will do each and every one of them this week. Pinky swear.

Here are two little news tidbits for you, though.

1) I put a contract on a house Saturday!!!!!!!! I find out today if I’m gonna be a homeowner again…all good vibes are most appreciated.

2) After my improv recital on Wednesday (which i have a videotape of…can someone email me and tell me if it’s possible to post clips of it on my site?), our class was asked to join a performing ensemble in town called Improv Smackdown! I’ll be performing 1-2 times a month, bringing the funny….i hope…

Mom says hi, and thanks for encouraging her son’s twisted sense of humor…

That shirt really brings out the color in your eyes…

Would You or Wouldn’t You?

I could’ve been a fly on the wall just now.

I’m at my desk waiting out the clock on my last 10 minutes before my three-day vacation, and my phone rang. My girlfriend’s name is flashing on the screen, so I answer with my usual, “Who Dis?”

Nothing.

I said, “Hello?” one more time, and waited. Then I heard she and someone who sounded like KL (am i right, KSG?) talking. after about five seconds, I just grinned and hung up.

Would you have stayed on and listened? I couldn’t.

What if they were having some heart to heart? What if KL - or KSG for that matter - was confiding something really private to their friend? And, most importantly, what if they were talking about my upcoming birthday and what KSG got me!?!?!

Hell, they coulda just been talking about nothing at all, but my point is, she didn’t know I was there. Therefore, to stay on the other end and continue to listen would’ve been totally skeezy in this humble blogger’s opinion.

I start vacation now in mere minutes, and am taking the camera with me starting tonight! so DON’T forget to keep sending in those suggestions for the PHOTO CHALLENGE! I’ll try to check in when I can with y’all when I can!

Godspeed, little doodles.
