“So You Wanna Be in Pictures?” or KS Does a Favor For A Friend

I know I said I’d pretty much be out of commission til the 9th, but duty calls (I said ‘doody’ - take THAT weird Google fecal freaks!)…

My best friend is the operations director of the symphony in town, and they’re actually doing something really cool to reach out to the younger crowd after finally realizing that their current fan base will be six feet under ground in about 10 years.

They’re staging a FREE FILM FESTIVAL! It’s a pretty cool idea, and I hope that they get a good response from it. It’s open to any and everyone, so, my blogging compatriots, this means YOU can enter and win (and while you’re down here, do stop by and say “hi” and we’ll have a couple Palmetto Ales - BR, how were they?)….

I’m totally slammed at work right now (going on vacation wednesday, so cramming five days of work into two), so in the interest of time, I’m just gonna paste the information that he sent to me below…

i just realized that anyone who’s truly in a hurry probably doesn’t type things such as, “in the interest of time.” or this aside. i’m a complex man, y’all.

Please give this a read and forward it on, or link to it on your site, or whatever, you never know who may be interested in this sort of thing. In this kickballer’s opinion, this has Last Girl on Earth written ALL OVER IT…

Take care of yourself. And each other.

PS - keep sending in those photo requests! The camera’s gettin’ busted out in 28 hours!

CSO SILENT FILM CONTEST PREVIEW NIGHT!

CHARLESTON – The Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is breaking out of the box. In an effort to develop new events that will appeal to a younger population, on Tuesday, May 3, the CSO is hosting a preview night for its inaugural Symphonic Film Contest. This free event will be held at the Gaillard Exhibition Hall at 7:00pm.

Aspiring filmmakers have the option of choosing from five different symphonic works, which average 5-10 minutes in length, to serve as the inspiration for his/her original film. The pieces have been selected from every end of the spectrum to give contestants the greatest amount of freedom and variety, and include everything from a relatively obscure baroque work to a 20th century avant-garde creation.

Contestants will be required to submit their final work in September. In October, the winners will be presented in a public viewing with the CSO performing the score with the film, live.

All details and information regarding entries will be available at the May 3 preview. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
All inquiries can be made to auditions@charlestonsymphony.com

The five selections are as follows:
· Ravel – Pavane for a Dead Princess
· Moryl – The Untuning of The Skies
· Handel – Overture to Sampson
· Von Suppe – Poet and Peasant Overture
· Reuventes - Canzon
