The Cow, The Queen, and The Kickballer

A big ol’ “Thanks y’all!” to Moobert J. Cowerton AKA MooCow and Sascha for the advice, opinions, thoughts, jokes, and fashion tips.

If I’m ever in your neck of the woods, we’ll need to go out for a drink. And if you ever happen upon Charleston, SC (which seems to be built directly over Hell’s exhaust vent lately), the first round’s on me…

bring it in for the real thing,

I Miss Kickball

We’re only one week away from the end of this season, and I’ve managed to make it two TWO lousy games!!!! What a far cry, from last season, when I ruled the playground with a 40 of King Cobra (”It Busts a Cap In Other Malt Liquors Asses, Yo!”), a pack of Camel Lights, and an iron fist. And by iron fist, I mean about as iron-fisted as the Snuggle bear gets.

I’m playing tomorrow night - despite the 110+ temperature (fat insulates, right?). I mean, I can only pull this type of behavior off for a little while longer before I become “that guy.” No one wants to be that guy. Ever.

and There Are Really Great Events That i can’t wait to discuss in the near future, but to speak about them could either jinx me or get me dooced (neither scenario would be ideal). I’ve got a great big load of really good problems to manage through, but my identity ain’t so secret (my own doing), so this shant be the location that I solicit advice.

yet.

And T - I hear you dropped by and visited the site recently! Way Cool! KSG’s cousin, ladies and gentlemen. We’ll have to get you up here to visit soon!

Expect More and Pay Less, y’all.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation

Sorry for the delay in getting back to y’all, but it seems that the first half of this year has been one of the most action-packed for me in quite some time). And thanks, Mel, for raising Viv and I from the dead….

So here’s the VERY SHORT version of the last two weeks…

KSG and I headed to Austin on July 9th for her brother’s wedding. She and I have been together for awhile now, so I was flattered, honored - and a little nervous - to meet her ENTIRE FAMILY at KSGB’s wedding! This wasn’t gonna be like her parents coming here, on my turf, for a weekend where we’d go to dinner, make small talk, and then call it a night. This was me surrounded by mom, dad, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents for two and a half days straight.

And it couldn’t have been more fun.

KSG was kind enough to quiz me on names and familial ties for the two days before we left, so that by the time we arrived at Austin’s airport, I could greet Grandpa by name, I knew which kids back home being talked about belonged to which set of parents, and that T would be the person that I could sneak away with for a cig break from time to time. KSG’s family is loud, funny, crazy, give each other a hard time, love a good fart joke, and aren’t afraid to dance poorly.

In other words, I fit right in.

We left Monday morning for Charleston, landed and waited for our bags. And waited. And waited.

They showed up at noon the next day, and were delivered to us by a really nice guy named Gene, whose car immediately died after he dropped off our bags. He called me and asked if I could give him a jump, which I did. I mean, how could you say no to the guy who just brought your life back to you so that you could leave for the second leg of your vacation?!?

KSG and I piled into the car for the 450 mile trip to the Outer Banks - an 8.5 hour drive to our beach house which contained MY (almost) whole family! Mom, Dad, one nephew + girlfriend, three sisters (+ boyfriends/husbands/kids), and brother (+ wife and kid). It was only fair, right? heheheheh…

KSG soon learned that she could bum it on the beach with my Dad all day long if she wanted, which kid belonged to which parents, and that M and J were always up for a cig and a beer on the balcony. My family is loud, funny, crazy, give each other a hard time, love a good fart joke, and aren’t afraid of karaoke.

In other words, she fit right in.

We got back from a great vacation on the 17th, and closed on my house on the 18th.

The tortoise next door says “What’s up,” by the way.

My nephew (sans girlfriend) came down on Wednesday for his college orientation, and I recieved some interesting news from friends in Minneapolis (MooCow - if you’re reading this, please shoot me an email. We need to talk).

I plan on moving into the new digs this weekend, unless other things come up (which they seem to be doing lately), and once safely ensconsed in my house, I should (in theory) be able to do some more posting. My boss just had her babies on Friday, and we have two folks in our department that have been here less than a week, so things have been hectic here to say the least….

Rock on.
Smell you later.
Feel the burn.
Blast the max.
Hug it out.
I like grapes.

I Did Nothing

…and it was everything that I hoped it would be…

It was TOO HOT to do anything outside this weekend, so I ventured out only to:

1) buy food (grocery store is 1/2 a mile away)
2) rent movies (summary: I’m too smart for Spiderman 2, not smart enough for I heart Huckabees, and just right for The Notebook - shut up. It was good, and it was filmed here in Charleston.)
3) see War of the Worlds. It was like eating pancakes. I was all excited at first, and by the end, I was f*$king sick of it. (RIP Mitch Hedburg)

I watched a lot of TV (I love the Food Network, y’all. I saw a recipe for a cool chicken sandwich on a show, went across the street, bought the ingredients, and made the best chicken, tomato, basil sandwich with a pesto spread you ever did eat!), played a lot of Rummy with KSG (She’s coming with me to the beach next week for a family vacation, and our family plays the hell out of that game. I thought I’d get her prepped and ready to kick some tail beforehand), and took lots and lots of naps.

I’ll announce the winners of the photo caption contest tomorrow, but in the meantime, if you want to read a great review of War of the Worlds, go see OddTodd’s review (I was his “Blog o’ the Week earlier this year!) of the movie. I could’t agree with it more.

On the Write Path

For the three of four people who regularly stop by and read my poetic waxing - Thank you.

Mom - Thanks for reading, too. While I do delve into the NC-17 arena from time to time, I always know that you’re dropping in, too. And I think that’s cool.

I’ve been very hit and miss with this site for the past two or three months. There are more than a few reasons for that - some are excuses, some are valid - but nevertheless, I’ve been mediocre at best about keeping this site full of new, fun, interesting, and above all else, silly content!

Well, no more, o browsers of the kickball superstar’s home and fortress of blogitude.

I’ve realized a couple things about this site that I kinda like.

Misty, Water-Colored Memories. -
The first one is that my memory ain’t what it used to be (Curse you, PBR, Bonnaroo, and the last two years of college!), and it’s nice to be able to look back and see what I was doing, and what I thought about it at the time.

I am lazy and don’t like to call people. -
I’m proud to say that I have lots of friends, and I come from a BIG family (4 sisters and a brother). But I HATE picking up the phone and talking to people. So, I figured this could be a way that, at the very least, they could see what I’m up to, and drop me a line if swept up in the moment. And I’ve had fun learning about a few of the folks that read my site on a regular basis (a personal blog goal is to get on a certain person’s “Blogs I Read Everyday” list). So, mom, tell the rest of the clan where they can find me, and I’ll keep throwing stuff up here.

The more I write, the more I write.
- I do a tremendous amount of writing at work. Some of it’s fun, others - not so much. But I have fun doing it. As far as this place goes, I used to “wait until I had something good to write about.” Well, I wound up not writing anything or forgetting the good stuff I wanted to write about. So, bear with me, dear readers, sometimes I may post crap, other times I may shock you with some words of wisdom (While I may look like the kid on Boy Meets World, I’m at least smarter than your average bear.).

There are a couple things that I really want to share with y’all, but they’ll have to wait for a few more days. But in the meantime:

I can tell you that I GOT MY HOUSE! I close on July 18th.
To quote Delmar O’Donnell - “You ain’t no kind of man until you own land.”
Wanna see it? Check it out!
Kickball Superstar\'s Lair
Here’s the Living Room (This is NOT my furtniture - it’s too nice. This was the stuff in the house before I bought it. It will now be filled with decades-old couches, scuffed up coffee tables, and the sweetest entertainment system you ever did see!).
The Den of Degeneration
Here’s where I’ll prepare microwave burritos, frozen pizzas, and store my beloved PBR.
Frozen Burrito Receptacle
This is where my dog will sleep (when I get a dog, that is…), and dirty kickball clothes will be thrown before they go in the wash.
Future Rest Site of Biffina
And last, but not least, this is the backyard. My neighbor to the right has a little fenced-in area with a doghouse that houses a BIG-ASS TORTOISE! That’s right - a big ol’ tortoise! He(she? it?) is awesome! When you walk into my backyard, he comes over to that side of the fence, sticks his tortoise neck through the fence, and gives you the “what’s up?” head nod. Upon further review, the head nod tells me he’s a dude.
Yertle Lives Next Door

So, that’s it for now - much, much, much, much more to come soon! Especially when I move in and get a damn internet connection going again (been without a hookup for going on three months now)…

For those of you that made it this far - thanks. And tell those that stopped stopping by, to come on back now, ya hear?

Sincerely,
Kickball Superstar
