Holiday Tour ‘06

Hey Y’all!

Just dropping a line to let you know we’re still out and about. Spent Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday morning with my family, then hopped a plane to New Orleans to spend some time with Annie and her clan. It’s been great to see them all again, and it’s been nice to see where KSG grew up - even though her city’s still in the beginning stages of recovery. But, there ARE positive stories here. People love this city and are doing all they can to bring her back. And so will I.

More thoughts on the visit on our next show, so stay tuned!

We’ll be down here for a few more days, then head on home in time for work on the 3rd.

So stay tuned for a new show soon (maybe this week!), as Annie and I can now record on the fly. So, y’all might be able to witness two people go completely insane during a 12-hour drive home…

Merry belated Christmas, Happy Hannukkah, (Merry? Happy?) Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, and New Year’s, y’all.

See you on the flip side.

My gir’s gone…

We stayed up late packing her stuff and didn’t have the energy to do a show last night.

I’m sure you’re really crushed.

She left for New Orleans this afternoon, and I ain’t-a-gon’ see her until Christmas Day, which means that for the next two days that I’m here alone (Roommate Matt’s gone, too), I’ll…

1) pack for DC and NOLA.
2) make sure my shopping’s done.
3) spend too much time in front of the computer…playing Stronghold. (Oh man. I’m so embarassed. I mean, “hacking into NORAD” or even “balancing my checkbook” sounds cooler than that…)

If I’m feeling particularly creative, I may drink a beer or two, sit at the computer, and piece together an Annie-free “SFNW” (for you, Moo) and put it up before I hop on the plane. But, I’m a smart enough man to know that she’s the show, so I won’t subject you to too many solo shows.

Anyway - drive safe, girl. I’ll be thinking about you.

For those of you that find the holidays hard…this one’s for you. Truer words have never been spoken.
-Jay

And yes, I know I typed “gir.” It was intentional. Try calling your gir “gir.” It’s pretty fun.

Thanks for reading and listening!
Now, for the love of Pete - call your mother. She loves you and misses you dearly.

Happy Holidays to Me!

While I can be pretty smart at times (just ask my roommate Matt that I never talk about who cries and whines that I don’t mention him but here you go you big crybaby how’s this are you happy now beware of what you ask for you just may get it - more on that later), sometimes I miss some details…

Like today, for example. I just found out at 1:30 today, that we aren’t open on Friday! Jackpot!

Luckily, I’m not the only one that was oblivious - my boss didn’t know either…

And it’s not like it should’ve been a big surprise or anything. It’s been clearly listed on our “Recognized Holidays” sheet on the bulletin board in the kitchen. All. Year. Long.

Damn.

So - short week for me! WooHoo! This is like when you wake up at like 4:30 in the morning, look over at the clock, and see that you still have a couple hours more to sleep - but waaaaaaaaay better!

I’m off all of the week of the 26th, so my vacation just got a day longer!

PS - a coworker just walked by doling out rumballs that would bring the kids from the Real World: Austin to their knees… double jackpot!

happily typing away with a rumball buzz in my head, and short week syndrome in my heart,

Plugs, Promotions, and Police Activity

Business Item:
Episode 5 will be coming soon! If you want a shout out, leave us a comment. If there’s something you’d like to promote, record a message, save it as a mp3 file, and send it to jayandannie@gmail.com, and we’ll play it during a show! Thanks for listening, y’all! Annie thinks that you’re all very smart and attractive.

Regular old blog post:
“I’m the one that didn’t do it!” - That’s what I used to say when I was a wee lad, and someone accussed me of eating/breaking/losing something (although I used to lose stuff all the time - especially winter coats. And one time I put one on a radiator, and it melted…but I digress…)

Annie had planned a fun little pre-party at her house before we were to head out to the official soiree. But before I went to her house, I thought I’d swing by the office and pick up my phone charger (my phone had been dead for going on 18 hours, and while I’m not Jake Gyllenhaal, sometimes people call me, or I need to call them.

I got to the office, unlocked the door, and entered the security code to disarm the system.

But it didn’t turn off.

I tried the code again.

But it still didn’t turn off.

And one last time for good measure.

And it went off…

Please note that I said “went off,” not “turned off”

I quickly ran outside, locked the door, and hauled ass to my car, and over to Annie’s. With the faint whine of police sirens off in the distance…

I was totally prepared to fall on my sword the second we walked into the party, but it was never brought up…

Although it probably will be now, since I know there are folks that I work with that visit here.

So, for those of you that I work with that read this -

I’m the one that didn’t do it.

Thank you.

The Scaries, Ugliest, Awesomest Caricatures Ever

Hey y’all.

Just got these pics from my nephew. These are the pics we talked about in SFTNW 3…Annie drew these in the kitchen as the Thanksgiving festivities were winding down…

1) here’s Dustin smashing pecan pie into Bill’s face (Bill is Dustin’s mom’s new boyfriend…)the pie smashing incident

2) …and my old man’s disapproving look at the situation…the old man

3) …and here’s a lovely portrait of my mom…the old lady

4)…I decided to jump in the act, and draw a picture of my sister who recently quit smoking. She was the meanest.person.ever. every time we all went out to smoke…nonsmokingsis

got a few more of these, too, but the files are too big to upload, so i’m cutting and pasting pieces…

I can TOTALLY see these as greeting card characters…scary, funny, weird, awesome greeting card characters…

‘bye…

Welcome to the World of the Real

It’s always a little strange to run into a blogger or podcaster in “real life.” I’ve actually never done it. Yet. Except for Little Miss Nobody, and Microfamous - but they don’t count, cuz I knew them before in the “world of the real.”

Well, last night, Annie and I meet Nate and Di of The Nate and Di Show - a very, VERY popular podcast. They live in our town, and I started up a conversation with them over email after listening to them for a few months. I invited them to our improv show last night, and they showed up, laughed (thank you N and D), and at least looked like they were having a good time.

After the show, we hung out for a half hour or so and just chatted about all sorts of stuff. They’ve got some great stuff going on with their show, and I’ve volunteered my “real job” services to help ‘em out any way that I can (although they’re kicking ass pretty well on their own! - but I’m still glad to help, y’all…)

It was a little strange at first hanging out with folks who I feel like I’ve been hanging out with cuz I hear them every time they do a show! But they’re extremely nice people, and I got over the weirdness instantly. They gave us some great advice for our show, and I hope that I was able to help them out in their really cool, super-secret, issue that they’re chewing on right now.

So, if you have a chance, take a listen to them. Then leave ‘em a comment and let ‘em know how you heard about ‘em. (i’m a natural-born marketer, y’all. i can’t help it.)

Drink lots of juice today, and wear a scarf. We don’t want you getting sick before the holidays, now.
